I have some code that needs to execute after Flask returns a response. I don’t think it’s complex enough to set up a task queue like Celery for it. The key requirement is that Flask must return the response to the client before running this function. It can’t wait for the function to execute.
I’ve got a Python script that sometimes displays images to the user. The images can, at times, be quite large, and they are reused often. Displaying them is not critical, but displaying the message associated with them is. I’ve got a function that downloads the image needed and saves it locally. Right now it’s run inline with the code that displays a message to the user, but that can sometimes take over 10 seconds for non-local images. Is there a way I could call this function when it’s needed, but run it in the background while the code continues to execute? I would just use a default image until the correct one becomes available.
I understand from this question that if I want to have a set which is thread-safe I have to implement the thread-safety part on my own.
I have written a short module that can be passed an image and simply creates a Tkinter window and displays it. The problem that I am having is that even when I instantiate and call the method that displays the image in a separate thread, the main program will not continue until the Tkinter window is closed.
