As you might know, the discussion about wp_version_check() and update.php has been a hot topic for give or take a decade.
I have found and downloaded a theme. However I want to tweak the CSS some to change the design, colours etc. a bit. How should I go about doing this, while still being able to update the theme without loosing the changes.

I’m developing a wordpress plugin at the moment which I do not want in the WordPress plugin repository. However I still want to be able to push updates to my costumers from my own API repository.
