I’ve been playing around with Python recently, and one thing I’m finding a bit odd is the extensive use of ‘magic methods’, e.g. to make its length available, an object implements a method, def __len__(self), and then it is called when you write len(obj).

I have a simple code to visualise some data using tkinter. A button click is bound to the function that redraws the next “frame” of data. However, I’d like to have the option to redraw automatically with a certain frequency. I’m very green when it comes to GUI programming (I don’t have to do a lot for this code), so most of my tkinter knowledge comes from following and modifying examples. I guess I can use root.after to achieve this, but I’m not quite sure I understand how from other codes. The basic structure of my program is as follows:

Does somebody know how “modular” is Django? Can I use just the ORM part, to get classes that map to DB tables and know how to read/write from these tables?

I am writing a python MapReduce word count program. Problem is that there are many non-alphabet chars strewn about in the data, I have found this post Stripping everything but alphanumeric chars from a string in Python which shows a nice solution using regex, but I am not sure how to implement it
