I’m getting an error in a program that is supposed to run for a long time that too many files are open. Is there any way I can keep track of which files are open so I can print that list out occasionally and see where the problem is?

How do I disable assertions in Python?
This is a question I have wondered about for quite some time, yet I have never found a suitable solution. If I run a script and I come across, let’s say an IndexError, python prints the line, location and quick description of the error and exits. Is it possible to automatically start pdb when an error is encountered? I am not against having an extra import statement at the top of the file, nor a few extra lines of code.
I’m developing C extensions from python and I obtain some segfaults (inevitable during the development…).
My Python library just changed it’s main module name from foo.bar to foobar. For backward compat, foo.bar still exists, but importing it raises a few warnings. Now, it seems some example program still imports from the old module, but not directly.
