For a long time now I have noticed something annoying when working on Web Application projects involving databased images on my local machine. By local I mean that it’s a typical environment with VS 2008 and SQL Server 2005 on my workstation. Whenever I use an HttpHandler to display the images on my local, only some of the images render on each page load.

What SqlDbType maps to varBinary(max)? SqlDbType.VarBinary says that it is limited to 8K. SQL Server documentation says that varbinary(max) can store aprrox. 2GB. But SqlDbType.VarBinary says that it is limited to 8K.

For several months, I’ve been receiving seemingly random InvalidOperationExceptions with the message “Internal connection fatal error”. Sometimes there’s a few days in between, while other times there are multiple errors per day.
There are some articles which indicate that async database calls are bad idea in .NET.
