By default, the Firefox (33.0) on my FreeBSD 11.0-CURRENT has the default application for opening PDF files set to Inkscape. Firefox does remember my previous choice, evince, in the “What should Firefox do with this file?” dialog, so until recently I was just confused where this configuration came from, but mostly ignored it because it did barely concern me.

Some instances of bash change the command history when you re-use and edit a previous command, others apparently don’t. I’ve been searching and searching but can’t find anything that says how to prevent commands in the history from being modified when they’re reused and edited.

I’m transferring about 9TB across my gigabit LAN. To do so as quickly as possible (i hope) I mounted the destination via NFS on the source and ran rsync across it.
Is there a way to mount multiple hard drives to a single mount point? Let’s say I run out of space on /home and decide to add an extra hard drive to the computer. How do I scale the space on a mount point? If I use RAID, can I add drives on the fly to increase space as I run out of them? Is there an alternative to using RAID if I am not interested in maintaining a high level of redundancy?
My goal is to allow all users who are members of the “team” group to edit (r/w) the same set of remote files — normal work collaboration — using a local mount point. I have tried NFS and SSHFS using ACLs without success yet. Here I am trying to get SSHFS working by making the umask correct (which, in theory, should solve the problems I’m experiencing).
