I would like to allow users to chmod a file that is owned by root or some user that is not themselves. I have chmod’ed the file to 777 and I get “operation not permitted”. I have added the user to the group of the file and get the same. Why can’t a user chmod a file they have write access to?
Steps to reproduce:
On Debian there is the common problem, that you try to plug an ntfs formatted USB harddrive and then can’t write to it as a regular user to it because the directory belongs to root.

On a multi-user system, what protects against any user accessing any other users files via root? As context, the question is based on my understanding as follows:
I have a personal folder /a/b on the server with permission 700. I don’t want others to list the contents in /a/b. The owner of /a is root.
I am wondering why by default my directory /home/<user>/ has permissions set to 755. This allows other users to enter into directories and read files in my home. Is there any legitimate reason for this ?
My plugin have minimum configuration like below.I can see plugin via WP admin under woocommerce main menu.but cannot see plugin from different role.That role can see woocommerce submenu.Only my custom submenu link not visible.
I have attempted a few different ways (manually, using Brozzme’s DB Prefix Tools & Addons plugin) to add a prefix to an older WP database (right now table names look like posts instead of wp_posts or stx_posts, etc.).
