I have Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 installed already. I downloaded the zip file Python for Windows extensions and extracted the contents into my Python27 folder. There’s now a subfolder called pywin32-214. (Is the 32 part a problem? I’m on a 64-bit system.) Here’s a transcript from the command line:
I am trying to implement a function primeFac() that takes as input a positive integer n and returns a list containing all the numbers in the prime factorization of n.
I am probably missing something obvious but anyway:
I need to run multiple programs one after the other and they each run in a console window.
I want the console window to be visible, but a new window is created for each program. This is annoying because each window is opened in a new position from where the other is closed and steals focus when working in Eclipse.
The names within an object SHOULD be unique.
I am still new to Python, and I have been trying to improve the performance of my Python script, so I tested it with and without global variables. I timed it, and to my surprise, it ran faster with global variables declared rather than passing local vars to functions. What’s going on? I thought execution speed was faster with local variables? (I know globals are not safe, I am still curious.)
I’m trying to get the index of all repeated elements in a numpy array, but the solution I found for the moment is REALLY inefficient for a large (>20000 elements) input array (it takes more or less 9 seconds).

I know how to cycle through a list of colors in matplotlib. But is it possible to do something similar with line styles (plain, dotted, dashed, etc.)? I’d need to do that so my graphs would be easier to read when printed. Any suggestions how to do that?
