I’m using the SocketServer module for a TCP server.
I’m experiencing some issue here with the recv() function, because the incoming packets always have a different size, so if I specify recv(1024) (I tried with a bigger value, and smaller), it gets stuck after 2 or 3 requests because the packet length will be smaller (I think), and then the server gets stuck until a timeout.
I’m building a website with flask where users have accounts and are able to login.
I’m using flask-principal for the loging in part and the role management.
Is there a way of making the user’s session expire after say 5 minutes or 10 minutes?
I was not able to find that in flask documentation or, flask-principal’s documentation.
I’m using the timeout parameter within the urllib2’s urlopen.
Many attempts have been made in the past to add timeout functionality in Python such that when a specified time limit expired, waiting code could move on. Unfortunately, previous recipes either allowed the running function to continue running and consuming resources or else killed the function using a platform-specific method of thread termination. The purpose of this wiki is to develop a cross-platform answer to this problem that many programmers have had to tackle for various programming projects.
I would like to repeatedly execute a subprocess as fast as possible. However, sometimes the process will take too long, so I want to kill it.

I want to run a shell script that got a loop in it and it can go for ever which I do not want to happen. So I need to introduce a timeout for the whole script.
I’m currently developping a systemd daemon. The problem I’m facing is that the daemon is killed 1m30s after beeing launched because the forking is not detected.
So far I couldn’t find anything really, but is it true that curl doesn’t really time out at all?
I want to start a process from a shell script, allow it to interact with the user (so I cannot just background it, grab the PID, launch sleep followed by sanity checks and kill), but if it is still running after a set period of time (say, two minutes), then and only then do I want to kill it.
What is the -w (deadline) flag in ping for? I cannot find a description of it in the ping man page; only for -W, which takes seconds as a parameter. What is the difference between them, and how can I set a ping timeout (if host is not responding) to 200ms?
