How do I change the figure size with subplots?

I have a temperature file with many years temperature records, in a format as below:
I would like to add percent values – in addition to counts – to my pandas barplot. However, I am not able to do so. My code is shown below and thus far I can get count values to display. Can somebody please help me add relative % values next to/below the count values displayed for each bar?
With matplotlib when a log scale is specified for an axis, the default method of labeling that axis is with numbers that are 10 to a power eg. 10^6. Is there an easy way to change all of these labels to be their full numerical representation? eg. 1, 10, 100, etc.

Say I am plotting a set of points with an image as a background. I’ve used the Lena image in the example:
To state it in a general form, I’m looking for a way to join several points with a gradient color line using matplotlib, and I’m not finding it anywhere.
To be more specific, I’m plotting a 2D random walk with a one color line. But, as the points have a relevant sequence, I would like to look at the plot and see where the data has moved. A gradient colored line would do the trick. Or a line with gradually changing transparency.
I am using ipython-notebook a lot at the moment for numerical analysis and plotting of data. In the process of preparing publication quality plots there is a lot of tweaking to get the layout just right, however I can’t get ipython/matplotlib to show me what I will be saving in the browser. Making the process more painful than it should be because I have to keep opening the new output file to check it.
